Our approach to navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic has been to work together with employees, communities and government to keep each other safe.

In May 2020, through the Guinea Chamber of Mines, the mine donated 1 billion Guinean Francs to local authorities to aid the National Agency of Health Security’s fight against the virus. In July, we donated 800 sanitation kits to Kintinian communities and Siguiri students through the Prefectural Directorate of Education in order keep students safe in schools.

The mine also increased the number of hand washing facilities on mine sites and in host communities. Other initiatives included temperature testing on site and in host communities and well as supplying personal protective equipment and medical equipment.

In total the Siguiri operation in Guinea will spend around US$1 million to fight COVID-19.

In terms of educating people about the virus, the mine held awareness campaigns focused on the distribution of information booklets and posters.
